Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about BetterQuit.
What does BetterQuit cost?
BetterQuit is completely free. Our goal is to help as many people as possible break their habits, and cost should never be a barrier to that.
If BetterQuit has helped you and you'd like to say thanks, you can make a small one-time donation of your choice, ranging from $1.99 to $9.99. As a thank you, you'll receive a personalized Quit Journey Summary — a beautiful report documenting your progress, milestones, and the data behind your success.

How does BetterQuit actually work?
BetterQuit follows three steps:
- Observe — For 7 days, just log your habit as usual. No changes, no judgment. We measure your natural patterns to build a personal baseline.
- Taper — Using exponential decay mathematics, BetterQuit creates a personalized schedule that gradually reduces your usage. Think of it as a slow, steady ramp down instead of a cliff.
- Learn — Slipped up? That's expected. The app helps you reflect on what happened, so each slip becomes a learning moment rather than a failure.
What habits can I use BetterQuit for?
BetterQuit works for any habit you want to reduce or quit — smoking, vaping, nicotine pouches, excessive caffeine, doomscrolling, or anything else with a countable frequency. If you can log it, BetterQuit can taper it.
What is exponential decay tapering?
Instead of quitting cold turkey or cutting usage by a fixed amount each week, BetterQuit uses an exponential decay curve. This means reductions are larger at first (when you have more room to cut back) and get smaller over time as you approach zero. It's the same math used in pharmacology for drug tapering — and it's far gentler on your willpower.
Is my data private?
Yes. All your habit-tracking data is stored locally on your device — it never leaves your phone. We don't operate servers that store your personal health data. The only exception is when the app generates smart reflections after a slip, which processes anonymized data without retaining it. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Does BetterQuit work on Apple Watch?
Yes. BetterQuit includes an Apple Watch companion app that lets you log uses directly from your wrist with a single tap — no phone needed. It also includes a complication so you can launch it instantly from your watch face.
What happens if I slip up?
Slips are a normal part of quitting. BetterQuit doesn't punish you or reset your progress. Instead, the app prompts a brief smart reflection to help you understand what triggered the slip. Your taper schedule adjusts to accommodate it, and you keep moving forward.
When will BetterQuit be available?
BetterQuit is available now for iOS and Apple Watch through TestFlight, Apple's free beta-testing app. Get Early Access on TestFlight — no account required.
